It’s summer break, college is right around the corner again and I’m moving into my own apartment for the first time. I need a desk. I look at IKEA and other places but I can’t find anything that looks like good quality for less than $300-400 at least.

I got this wood for free from a local trailer company. It started with a bunch of boards that I cut down to a little over 6 feet in length. I ran them through a planer to get them relatively flat then I used a table saw to cut them into square strips. Then I arranged and culled the bad strips, and glued them into four planks. When they dried I ran those through the planer again to remove excess glue and make them uniform thickness. Then those four planks were all glued together to form the whole desktop. The ends were trimmed and a LOT of sanding and finishing happened, and now I have a kick ass desk.
